Ron Pingrey and Luis Tabares met on a multi-million dollar job. Ron was the lead contractor on the project and Luis handled all the paint, insulation, and drywall. It was clear that they shared the same values when it comes to being a contractor;

After working together on three more projects, they decided to go into business and start Grey Contracting. Grey Contracting was founded in 2018 by Ron and Luis to create a Commercial and Residential General Contractor firm with a client-focused attitude and a small town feel. It was, and is, their mission to personalize the process of working with a contractor and remove the corporate feel of large-scale building projects, without cutting corners or sacrificing the highest quality.
Ron and Luis have worked in and with large corporate general contractors for years. Even though they come from different backgrounds, they both share the belief that most corporations running these projects treated themselves and their clients like mere numbers on a ledger. These companies were more concerned with having large margins than they were with the fact that their work met the lowest standards possible. Ron and Luis know that there is a better way to serve clients. They believe that employees and clients should be treated as family and that working together in a transparent and open manner creates the best projects. Grey Contracting is a place where first time investors with an idea can find the answers and understanding they need. Our clients are not large banks or insurance companies. We prefer the mom and pop groups that have an idea but not the knowledge to pull it off. We are a General Contractor firm that prides itself on educating and supporting our clients throughout the entire project, from inception to completion. When your project is completed, we don’t want you to feel as if it is just another building. We want you to be proud of what you have achieved, learned a little something on the way, and left a mark on the world. Our personnel embrace our firm’s culture and take tremendous pride in their projects. Ron Pingrey brings 32 years of experience in the business with over half a billion dollars in projects completed to date. He is a fourth-generation general contractor and grew up with an Estwing as a rattle. Ron earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington and uses the scientific method to approach all construction project scheduling in order to keep the project on track. Ron has lead projects all over the southeast and is the license holder for Grey Contracting. He has developed countless tracts of land and built everything from production homes, to apartments, HUD rehabs, and assisted living facilities. Currently, you will find him on all of our active and pre-development projects leading the train and educating the troops. Ron believes a no-nonsense, hands-on approach provides the best opportunity to educate our employees and clients on the construction process. His mottos are, “open every door every day” and, “just paint it purple”. He believes that if you don’t walk away learning something during the process, he has failed you. Ron isn’t the type to merely bark orders. He personifies leadership by example. He is not afraid to grab a broom or walk in the mud with the workers to get your project done and your legacy built.
Luis Tabares is our front of the house wizard with over 41 years in the business. Luis built his personal company, Tabares Inc., from scratch and raised it to the self-managing, family-owned powerhouse it is today in the drywall and paint industry. Luis has the ability to pull manpower throughout the southeast to feed our projects with the most reliable personnel. Luis also leads and oversees our office staff to ensure all our paperwork is up to date, our invoices are paid, and accountability is tracked. Luis prides himself on making sure that our organization meets the same superior quality as our building standards.
