Where Shared Values Built a Better Way to Build
Ron Pingrey and Luis Tabares met on a multi-million-dollar project. Ron was the lead contractor on the job, and Luis handled all the painting, insulation, drywall and details. It was clear they shared the same values when it came to being a contractor:

After working together on three additional projects, they decided to go into business together and form Grey Contracting. Founded in 2018 by Ron and Luis, Grey Contracting was created as a Commercial and Residential General Contractor firm with a client-focused attitude and a small-town feel. It was—and continues to be—their mission to personalize the construction process and remove the corporate feel often associated with large-scale building projects, without cutting corners or sacrificing quality.
Ron and Luis have worked in and alongside large corporate general contractors for many years. Despite coming from different backgrounds, they share a common belief that many corporations treat both employees and clients as mere numbers on a ledger. These companies often prioritize large margins over delivering work that exceeds minimum standards. Ron and Luis believe there is a better way to serve clients.
They believe employees and clients should be treated like family and that working together in a transparent and open manner produces the best projects. Grey Contracting is a place where first time homeowners, mom and pop investment groups, and even your most experienced real estate gurus can find the guidance and understanding they need. Our clients are not large banks or insurance companies—we prefer working with mom-and-pop groups who have a vision but lack the experience to bring it to life.

Leadership Built on Experience
Ron Pingrey brings 40 years of industry experience, with over half a billion dollars in completed projects and over 1,700 homes constructed and counting. A fourth generation general contractor, Ron grew up with an Estwing hammer as a rattle. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and applies the scientific method to construction scheduling to keep projects on track.
Ron has led projects across the southeastern United States and serves as the license holder for Grey Contracting. His experience includes developing tracts of land and building everything from production homes to apartments, HUD rehabs, and assisted living facilities. He is also experienced in designing and building custom coastal homes and showcase homes. Today, Ron is actively involved in all current and pre-development projects, leading teams and educating both employees and clients.
Ron believes a hands-on, no-nonsense approach provides the best opportunity for learning. His mottos are “open every door every day” and “just paint it purple.” He believes that if a client walks away without learning something, he has failed them. Ron leads by example—never afraid to grab a broom or walk through the mud alongside his crew to ensure your project, and your legacy, is built right. Ron also completes code updates and continuing education every year to keep up with the national and local code changes, not to mention latest trends in design.
Operational Excellence That Keeps Everything Moving
Luis Tabares is the front-of-house expert with more than 41 years in the construction industry. He built his personal company, Tabares Inc., from the ground up, growing it into a self-managing, family-owned leader in drywall and painting services.
Luis can source reliable manpower across the Southeast to support Grey Contracting projects. He also oversees office operations, ensuring paperwork is current, invoices are paid, and accountability is maintained throughout the organization. Luis takes pride in making sure Grey Contracting's internal operations meet the same superior standards as the buildings we construct.
